WiFi

SugarPixel+ supports home networks, enterprise networks (username + password), and captive portal networks. Networks are saved automatically — like a phone — so SugarPixel+ reconnects to any previously used network without re-entering credentials. Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks are supported.

To manage WiFi, go to ≡ → General Settings → WiFi. To remove a saved network, tap the delete icon next to its name.

Home WiFi Standard home or apartment network with a password

Both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks are supported.

1Select your network
Tap your network name from the list. If it doesn't appear, tap Enter Manually to type it in.

2Enter your password
Type your WiFi password and tap Connect.

3Confirm connection
SugarPixel+ verifies the connection. Once connected, it appears in your saved networks list.

School / University / Work Enterprise WiFi — requires a username and password

Enterprise networks are common at schools, universities, hospitals, and workplaces. SugarPixel+ auto-detects these networks and displays an Identity, Domain, and password field.

1Try your email and password
Enter your full email address in the Identity field, leave Domain blank, and enter your password. Tap Connect.

2If that doesn't connect — try splitting your email
Some networks require the email split across two fields:

  • Identity: the part before the @ (e.g., jsmith)
  • Domain: the part after the @ without the @ sign (e.g., university.edu)
  • Password: your account password

3If that still doesn't connect — check your institution's WiFi guide
Search for your school or employer's WiFi setup instructions for Linux, Android, or Other devices. These guides list the exact credential fields required.

Captive Portal Hotels, cafés, airports — requires accepting terms or signing in through a browser page

Some networks require you to accept terms or log in before granting internet access. SugarPixel+ opens a sign-in window automatically when you connect to one of these networks.

1Select the network
Tap the network name. A sign-in window will open automatically.

2Complete the sign-in
Accept the terms or log in as required. When you see a success message, close the window.

⚠️

Portal sessions can expire: Portal sessions can expire at any time, cutting off readings. If your session expires and you have any alerts enabled, SugarPixel+ will automatically fire a Captive Portal alert — this follows your global alert settings and quiet hours. An on-screen notification will also appear when the session needs to be renewed.

Mobile Hotspot Connect using a phone or tablet as a WiFi source

A mobile hotspot works like a standard WiFi network. Enable the hotspot on your phone or tablet, then select it from SugarPixel+'s network list and enter the hotspot password.

ℹ️

Hotspot connections use your mobile data plan. Monitor usage if you're on a limited plan.

Firewall Reference For sharing with your school or workplace IT department

Setup at a school or workplace usually requires IT assistance. Share the requirements below with your IT department. If they have questions, ask them to contact us at support@customtypeone.com.

Network Requirements

  • 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WiFi are both supported
  • WPA2 (password-based) is supported
  • Enterprise WiFi (username/password) is supported
  • Captive portals are supported
  • SugarPixel+ does not need to be on the same WiFi as the CGM phone
  • Custom security certificates cannot be installed — networks that require SSL/TLS inspection or a custom root certificate will not work

Firewall / Allowed Endpoints

All connections use HTTPS except time sync. Only the CGM in use needs to be allowed.

  • Dexcom: *.dexcom.com
  • Libre: *.libreview.io
  • Gluroo: *.gluroo.com
  • Nightscout: patient-specific URL (provide to IT)
  • System updates: *.sugarpixel.com
  • Time sync (NTP): *.ntp.org on port 123 — additional servers returned by NTP must also be reachable. A custom time server can be configured if needed.

Notes for IT

  • This list may change as features are updated.
  • Whitelisting by SugarPixel+ MAC address is the most reliable long-term approach. The MAC address is shown under ≡ → Device Information.

⚠️ Troubleshooting: WiFi Issues Steps to resolve connection and network problems
⚠️ Network selected but won't connect Password correct but connection fails

Double-check your password — it's case-sensitive. If that looks correct, try these steps:

1Restart your router
Power cycle the router and wait for it to fully come back up.

2Delete and re-add the network
If the network was saved during a failed attempt, tap the delete icon next to it and reconnect from scratch.

⚠️ Enterprise credentials rejected Username and password aren't working on a school or work network

Work through all three credential approaches in the School / University / Work section above. If those don't connect, try device registration:

Device Registration

Many schools and universities allow IoT and smart-home devices to connect by registering the device's MAC address — sometimes called "device registration" or "non-standard device access."

1Find your MAC address
Go to ≡ → Device Information and note the MAC address shown.

2Register the device
Search for "[school name] register device WiFi" to find your institution's registration page. Register SugarPixel+ using the MAC address. Some schools issue a personal WiFi password after registration.

3Connect
Select the registered network from SugarPixel+'s WiFi list and enter the password if one was provided, or connect without a password if none is required.

ℹ️

If your institution requires a custom security certificate, SugarPixel+ cannot install it. See the Firewall Reference section for details to share with your IT department.

If the network still won't work, a personal mobile hotspot is a reliable fallback.

⚠️ Captive portal sign-in window won't load Portal page is blank or doesn't open

1Delete and reconnect
Remove the saved network and connect to it again — this triggers the portal window to reopen.

2Check for a notification
If SugarPixel+ shows an on-screen notification about re-authorization, tap it to reopen the portal sign-in window.

3Try a different network
If the portal consistently fails to load, a mobile hotspot is a reliable alternative.

⚠️ Network not appearing in the list Expected network isn't showing up during scan

1Make sure you're in range
Move SugarPixel+ closer to the router and wait for the network list to refresh.

2Check if the network is hidden
If your network doesn't broadcast its name, tap Enter Manually and type the network name (SSID) exactly as configured.

3Restart SugarPixel+
Go to ≡ → General Settings → System Settings → Reboot, then check the network list again.
